Is Life A Gift To You?
I have said that each new day is indeed a gift, and I still hold to that. However, the stress of living that can bring such anxiety and frivolous worry destroys any chance of our experiencing that. The enemies of our vitality and hope are comparison, criticism, and fear. Mark Twain said that most of the things we worry about will never happen! And even if they did, our feeble worrying does nothing to change it. I struggle daily with an underlying uneasiness of what-ifs. And, like you, I seek peace of mind. Much of the anxiety we encounter is caused by how we react to people and situations that are inevitable and out of our control. Oh, to roll with it baby, and let the chips fall where they may. As Doris Day sang, “Que sera, sera. Whatever will be will be. The future’s not ours to see. Que sera, sera”. When will we humble ourselves enough to relax, and accept that we cannot figure everything out? There is freedom and peace in that. Obviously, there is something much bigger than us at work in our lives which we must seek to trust and believe is wholly good and protective. Can we decide to lay our burdens down daily? And when we forget and put them back on our shoulders to carry, can we practice compassion and forgive ourselves? Baby steps..be uplifted.
